About the Author

Marcin Kamieniczny, MSc Eng.

Geomatics · cartography · photogrammetry · UAV · remote sensing

I work with the acquisition and analysis of spatial data, with a particular focus on photogrammetry, unmanned aerial vehicles, remote sensing and laser scanning. I am currently developing these interests as part of my doctoral studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

1. Academic Path

My academic path has been connected with geodesy, cartography and geomatics from the beginning. The successive stages of my studies have allowed me to move from the classical foundations of surveying and cartographic work towards modern methods of acquiring and analysing spatial data.

Beginning of my academic path

Started undergraduate studies in Geodesy and Cartography at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

02/2023
Geodesy and Cartography (BSc Eng.)

Completed engineering studies and began master's studies in Geomatics and Cartography.

07/2025
Geomatics and Cartography (MSc Eng.)

Completed master's studies. My thesis, “Cartographic analysis of land-use changes in Czerwonak Municipality between 1933 and 2024”, received second place in the Faculty Competition for Diploma Theses at Adam Mickiewicz University.

Doctoral School of Natural Sciences at AMU

Started doctoral studies in the discipline of Earth and Environmental Sciences. I conduct my research within the Department of Environmental Remote Sensing and Soil Science.

2. Why did I create the Czerwonak 1933–2024 project?

Czerwonak Municipality is not just a research area for me. It is the place where I live, which made the opportunity to trace the changes that have taken place here over almost a century particularly interesting to me.

My master's thesis became the starting point for creating a project that makes its results available in a more accessible and interactive form. Above all, I wanted the data and maps I had prepared not to remain solely part of an academic thesis, but to be useful to local residents and anyone interested in the history and spatial development of the municipality.

The interactive map is an extension of my research, but also an attempt to show that spatial data can be a way of telling local history.

3. Publications and Achievements

My research interests have also resulted in publications related to photogrammetry and the quality of acquired data.

Scientific publication

An article concerning the influence of GCP distribution on a photogrammetric model.

5. Beyond the Project

The Czerwonak 1933–2024 project is one example of how I use spatial data to analyse changes taking place in the environment and landscape. My current interests, however, focus primarily on new data acquisition methods, UAV photogrammetry, remote sensing, and the reconstruction and analysis of 3D environments.

For this purpose, I combine a classical cartographic approach with modern surveying and computational techniques. The combination of different data sources — from historical maps to contemporary imagery and 3D models — is one of the directions that interests me most in geomatics.
